The original welcome email was a simple two lines long:
“Thank you for joining the newsletter!
I'm looking forward to sending you the first one :).”
The goal was to turn that brief confirmation into a proper introduction. One that gave new subscribers a taste of the creator’s personality, established what they could expect, and made the newsletter feel worth returning to.
Creator name and identifying details omitted for privacy.
Before writing anything I analyzed the creator's emails they'd sent so far.
The writing was personal, conversational, story-driven, humorous, and often built around ideas from his own experiences.
Rather than writing a generic “here's what this newsletter is about” introduction, I brought elements of his existing voice into the welcome email.
Personal experiences.
Conversational language.
A little humor.
A clear point of view.
I also included what they could expect reading this newsletter. Including:
Thoughts on confidence and social life
Psychology made more accessible
Personal stories and lessons
Ideas that encourage readers to look at everyday moments differently
And it ends with a small callback to one of the creator’s recognizable video elements: his literal drawing board.
Generic → Transactional feel
A two-line confirmation that tells subscribers very little about the person behind the newsletter or what they'll receive.
Personal → Conversational → Memorable
A proper introduction that sounds like the creator, gives readers a taste of his content, sets expectations, and creates a stronger first impression.
